Overview

What is Press Locked Grating?

Press locked grating is a type of steel bar grating manufactured using high-pressure mechanical interlocking, eliminating the need for welding or rivets. The process involves forcing cross bars through precision-punched slots in the load-bearing bearing bars under tremendous pressure, creating a permanent, rigid connection that can withstand heavy loads and continuous vibration.

Unlike welded grating, press locked grating offers a completely smooth surface with no weld spatter, sharp edges, or raised areas. This makes it the preferred choice for pedestrian walkways, platform flooring, and architectural applications where safety, aesthetics, and clean appearance matter. The mechanical locking mechanism also provides excellent structural integrity, with each joint capable of carrying loads up to 1000 psf in standard configurations.

Manufactured from high-strength carbon steel, stainless steel, or galvanized steel, press locked grating is available in a wide range of bearing bar sizes, pitches, and panel dimensions to meet specific project requirements. Common applications include mezzanine floors, trench covers, drainage covers, and industrial catwalks where reliable non-welded construction and corrosion resistance are essential.

Features overview

Key Features

Why choose this grating type

No Welding Required

Press locked grating uses a high-pressure mechanical interlocking process that eliminates the need for welding. This results in a cleaner appearance with no weld spatter, burn marks, or heat-affected zones.

Smooth, Flat Surface

The pressure-locked construction creates a completely flat surface profile with no raised bars or sharp protrusions, making it ideal for pedestrian traffic areas and safety-critical walkways.

Superior Load-Bearing Capacity

Each mechanically locked joint provides exceptional shear strength, with standard configurations supporting uniform loads up to 1000 psf and concentrated loads up to 3000 lbs.

Vibration Resistant

The permanent press-fit connection between bearing bars and cross bars resists loosening under continuous vibration, making press locked grating ideal for machinery platforms and industrial environments.

Corrosion Resistant Options

Available in hot-dip galvanized, stainless steel, or epoxy-coated finishes, providing long-term corrosion protection in harsh environments including chemical plants, offshore platforms, and wastewater facilities.

Architecturally Appealing

With its clean lines and uniform appearance, press locked grating is often selected for architectural grating applications such as decorative facades, sunscreens, and building entrances.
