Overview

What Is Welded Steel Grating?

Welded steel grating is the most widely used type of industrial bar grating, manufactured by resistance-welding flat bearing bars to round cross bars at every intersection. This creates a rigid, one-piece panel that offers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and long service life. The electric resistance welding (ERW) process fuses the bars at each joint without filler metal, producing a uniform bond that is stronger than the base material.

Manufactured to ASTM A36 and A1011 standards, welded steel grating is available in carbon steel, hot-dip galvanized steel, and stainless steel grades (304, 316). Bearing bar depths range from 1 inch to 6 inches with thicknesses from 1/8 inch to 3/8 inch, providing load capacities suitable for pedestrian walkways through heavy-duty industrial trucking areas.

Standard panel sizes are 1 ft x 20 ft, 3 ft x 20 ft, and custom dimensions up to 48 inches wide by 24 ft long. With bar spacing options of 1-3/16 inch, 1-3/8 inch, or 2-3/8 inch on center, welded steel grating can be tailored to any load requirement, spanning condition, or open area specification.

Características

Características y Ventajas

Superior Weld Strength

Electric resistance welding at every bar intersection creates full-penetration fusion welds that exceed the strength of the base metal. No filler material is used, ensuring consistent quality and structural integrity across the entire panel.

High Strength-to-Weight Ratio

The open-grid design maximizes load capacity while minimizing dead weight. With bearing bar depths up to 6 inches, welded steel grating supports heavy industrial loads using significantly less material than solid plate flooring.

Excellent Drainage & Ventilation

The open area design (typically 40-70% open) allows water, debris, and airborne particles to pass through freely, preventing ponding and reducing wind uplift. Ideal for outdoor platforms, drainage trenches, and ventilation applications.

Anti-Slip Safety Options

Available with serrated bearing bars that provide superior slip resistance in wet, oily, or icy conditions, making them ideal for industrial walkways and platforms.

Corrosion Resistant Finishes

Hot-dip galvanizing per ASTM A123 provides 50+ years of corrosion protection in outdoor environments. Stainless steel 304/316 options are available for chemical, food processing, and marine applications.

Fully Customizable Dimensions

Panels can be fabricated to custom widths, lengths, bar spacing, and load classifications. Cutouts, notches, banding, and toe plates can be added to meet exact project specifications.
