Overview

What is Serrated Steel Grating?

Serrated steel grating is a specialized type of steel bar grating featuring V-shaped notches or teeth machined into the top surface of the load-bearing bars. These serrations, typically 1.0 to 1.5 mm deep at 3–6 mm intervals, create a highly aggressive anti-slip surface that provides exceptional traction even in wet, oily, or icy conditions.

The serration process is applied to the bearing bars after the grating is manufactured, either by stamping or machining. This preserves the structural integrity of the grating while adding a critical safety feature. Serrated grating maintains the same load-bearing capacity as plain grating of equivalent dimensions, making it a direct replacement in applications where slip hazards are a concern.

Serrated steel grating is widely specified in industries where workplace safety regulations demand enhanced slip resistance, including offshore oil and gas platforms, marine vessels, food processing facilities, chemical plants, and public walkways. Available in welded, press-locked, and swage-locked constructions, serrated grating can be customized to meet OSHA, AS1657, and DIN 51130 safety standards.

Features overview

Key Features

Why choose this grating type

Superior Anti-Slip Surface

V-shaped serrations machined into the bearing bar tops create an aggressive gripping surface that significantly outperforms plain grating in wet, oily, frosty, or greasy conditions.

Full Load Capacity Retention

Serration does not compromise structural strength. Serrated grating maintains identical load-bearing capacity as plain grating of the same material and dimensions.

OSHA & International Compliance

Meets slip resistance requirements of OSHA 1910, AS1657, DIN 51130 (R13–R14), and other international safety standards for industrial walkways and platforms.

Available in Multiple Constructions

Serrated surface can be applied to welded grating, press-locked grating, and swage-locked grating, offering flexibility in manufacturing method selection.

Corrosion & Chemical Resistance

Choose from hot-dip galvanized, stainless steel 304/316, or specialized coatings for exceptional durability in marine, chemical, and food processing environments.

Self-Cleaning Surface Design

The open grating design combined with serrated teeth allows debris, water, and contaminants to pass through, preventing buildup and maintaining slip resistance over time.
